Joint Call to the World Assembly of Inhabitants (WSF Tunis, 24 to 28 March 2015)

The International Alliance of Inhabitants, Habitat International Coalition and No Vox International are calling all individuals, organisations, movements and collectives to participate in the activities organised during the World Social Forum and the World Assembly of Inhabitants, the space of convergence where the results of all our activities will be presented. To do that we are inviting to setting up united Committees for mobilisation on a local and national scale and to register your activities before 10 January 2015 in support of the proposed axis for the WSF “Land, housing, inhabitants”.

As a part of the activities for the World Social Forum , which will take place in Tunis from 24 to 28 March 2015, we are calling for the participation and mobilisation of all social movements and community-based organisations and all underprivileged, poor and vulnerable people who are personally campaigning for the defence and application of the basic rights defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to inspire the creation of new rights. This is a call to the social urban, communitarian, semi-urban and rural networks and movements; inhabitants organisations for slums, neighbourhoods, settlements, cooperatives, tenants and mortgaged landlords; squats and social movements and organisations who fight for social justice, gender equality and environmental durability; and who work for the defence, promotion and realisation of Human Rights regarding housing and land in all territories, in urban and rural settings.

We are calling for the open, democratic and active participation of inhabitants from all countries and continents, so that together we can speak a common language to unite our campaigns and work in solidarity:

  • To eradicate injustice, segregation, forced evictions, repression over inhabitants and their movements, all forms of segregation and social, economic and cultural exclusion.
  • To put in place alternative policies and practices that give inhabitants the social function of cities and land. It is possible to create a situation where towns and villages respond to the needs of their people, without discrimination, where all live in dignity, decency and in harmony with nature and the environment.
  • To put an end to neoliberal policies that profit all types of speculators put in place by our governments, which will be the focus of the UN Habitat III summit in 2016.

We are inviting individuals, organisations, movements and collectives to take part in the World Social Forum (for further information visit http://fsm2015.org/ ) by setting up united Committees for mobilisation on a local and national scale. You are invited to register your activities before 10 January 2015 (http://registration.fsm2015.org/ ) in support of the proposed axis for the WSF “Land, housing, inhabitants”.

Together, we would like to invite all individuals, organisations, movements and collectives to participate in the activities that No Vox, the International Alliance of Inhabitants (IAI) and the Habitat International Coalition (HIC) and their respective campaigners will organise during the World Social Forum.

Together, we would like to invite everyone to take part in the space of convergence of the World Assembly of Inhabitants where the results of all our activities will be presented.
