Urgent IAI call for full solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
The reports from Venezuela from the Red Metropolitana de Inquilinos, a member of the International Alliance of Inhabitants, underlines that the opposition is violently attacking the social and political conquests of the Bolivarian Republic, notably by destroying buildings of the Gran Misión Vivienda and threatening social leaders.
The Gran Misión Vivienda has just celebrated the allocation of housing n. 1,500,000 out of the 3 million provided for between 2011 and 2019, as well as Decree 8190 that prohibits arbitrary evictions, the law on rent control and the support of self-building. These pillars are alternatives to capitalist real estate speculation, which fans, especially, the flames of the opposition.
This represents another reason for our urgent call to all IAI members and grassroots movements everywhere in the world to rally in full solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, its legitimate government and the social organisations, our comrades, our brothers and sisters in the fight against the destructive violence caused by the opposition and any foreign intervention, the OAS and the United States who are preparing a real coup d'état.

His Excellency, President
Nicolás Maduro Moros
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
We address you as the International Alliance of Inhabitants, a global network of grassroots, community, regional, tenant and social movements operating in 40 countries worldwide, to express our solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, its legitimate government and social organisations.
Thus, we condemn the acts of violence that occurred in Caracas and the main cities of Venezuela. We particularly condemn the violence of opposition groups at the buildings of the Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela. This is a flagship project for the world that promotes the socialisation and construction of decent housing for people of lesser means, who have been forced out of the city by the capitalist model. The Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela is the result of the Bolivarian revolution and the fight of social movements, and so it honours the fundamental principles of the Right to the City.
We are concerned about the reports from the Red Metropolitana de Inquilinos, a significant component of the International Alliance of Inhabitants. As the International Alliance of Inhabitants, we wish to condemn the violence and foreign intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela. Thus, we condemn the terrorist acts perpetrated against schools, health services, universities, public transport and road services. They violate the rights of citizens to circulate in peace. We also reassert that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is a defender of Human Rights, as was recently demonstrated to the international community during the Universal Periodic Review of the state of Human Rights.
Furthermore, the International Alliance of Inhabitants defends the right to self-determination of peoples, the Human Right to Housing and to the City. We also defend the fact that all citizens of Venezuela deserve to live in peace and harmony. We declare our solidarity with the Bolivarian people and its government, who is building an alternative for a world that differs from the capitalist model and condemns violent acts that cause terror, the destruction of common goods, the destruction of nature and contamination.
